Chrysler’s parent company Stellantis is recalling more than 63,000 jeep cherokees According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), due to issues with the vehicles’ power transfer units (PTUs).
The recall is for Jeep Cherokee model years between 2017 and 2019.
“The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and cause the transmission and differential to lock up, resulting in loss of drive power and/or loss of park function,” the NHTSA website states.
According to NHTSA, not only can the loss of drive power make accidents more likely, but the loss of the park function “may cause unintended vehicle rollover, increasing the risk of accident or injury.”

The agency said a solution was still “under development.” Notification letters will be sent to affected owners on February 13.
Last year, Chrysler recalled 338,238 Jeep Grand Cherokees due to a steering wheel problem that posed a significant safety hazard.
