Introduction
Sony Fe 200-600 mm F/5.6–6.3 g is a supertelphoto zoom with a great balance of characteristics. It is long enough for distant wildlife photography, yet is portable enough to carry with you. It is not the most bright telephoto out of there, but F/6.3 still allows for appropriate photos in low light. At its top, the zoom ability makes it very flexible – and most, the price of $ 2000 is much lower than spending for a foreign supertelphoto like 600 mm F/4.
All those things cannot be said, of course, any other Soni F lens at this time. For example, Sony Fe 400-800 mm F/6.3-8 is an impressive lens if you need maximum access, but f/8 aperture at the long end will make low-light photography a little harder. Meanwhile, Sony FE 100–400 mm F/4.5–5.6 is properly bright and portable, but 400 mm may not be very short or long enough for subjects. This Sony fees 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3G in some unique place in the company’s lineup.
It’s not that there No Option. Tamron 150-500mm F/5-6.7 (Jo) I have already reviewed) And Sigma is both close contestants, 150–600 mm F/5–6.3, and they spend slightly less than $ 1400 and $ 1500 respectively. I have had good experiences with both Tamron and Sigma in the past, and I will not hesitate to buy a lens from any of those companies. However, I also understand that for sports and wildlife photography, where autofocus reliability and precision are particularly important, some photographers will consider only a first-long lens. You will also see on the comparison page of this review that Sony Tamran is faster than the head-to-head, so there is another reason to consider spending an additional $ 500. (I have not yet tested Sigma in the lab, unfortunately, but I will update this review once.)
In any case, it should be clear that Sony Fe 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3 g why such a popular lens is, at least on paper. But how does it perform in practice? Well, I already gave a share of the answer by saying that this tamon is faster than 150–500 mm F/5-6.7 (which is not a bad lens from any stretch). However, the answer does not stop there. I have tested a large scale in both Sony Fe 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3 and in the laboratory, and my fellow photography life writer Libor Vacenbacher also tested a copy of his own in the region. Based on our experiences, this review covers every aspect of the performance of Sony Fe 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3, about which you must be thinking about. What should you know here!
build quality
Sony Fe 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3 g is a well-manufactured lens that has white barrels found on most of Sony’s long telephoto lenses. With most modern lenses, the barrel is manufactured with high quality plastic that feels strong and asserted in hand.
I mentioned in intro that the lens is portable enough to carry with you, and this is true, but it is not even a small lens. The 200–600 mm weighs 2115 grams (4.65 pounds) and measures 318 mm long (12.5 in). It is similar to other lenses in this category-for example, Sigma weighs 2100 grams of 150–600 mm F/5–6.3, and Nikon’s 180–600 mm f/5.6-6.3 weighs 2140 grams. While you will definitely notice the weight of any of these lenses, they are still within the reason. I found it possible to hand over this lens to this lens for a long time without longing for a long time, which I could not say about my previous experience with 600 mm F/4 lens (although perhaps I just need to hit a little more in the gym 🙂
One of my favorite things about Sony 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3 is that the barrel does not expand when you zoom in. This is something unusual in the zoom today, but it is always a good feature, especially for a lens that you expect to use in adverse weather conditions. I did not feel that there was no concern to bring out this lens in the rain, knowing that internal zoom and broad weather sealing would be sufficient to survive anything other than a danking. And this proved to be true in behavior – I never went to any issue despite using it in some very thick weather. Thought on everything, this lens is made very well.
Now let’s cover the handling facilities of Sony Fe 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3G.
Handling
Sony FE 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3G handles well. There are different types of different controls that allow you to get those settings quickly that are after you. Namely, the lens contains a function button (four times duplicate around the lens) with four control switch (two for image stabilization settings). The lens also has a removable trippai leg, which many photographers would like to change with an arca-swaris compatible foot like This one,
It is not fully featured as Sony’s foreign lens, though. For example, Sony Fe 600 mm F / 4 GM also has a custom control ring / focus hold ring in front of the lens, as well as additional switch for your function preset, beeping sounds and full -time direct manual focus. Some of these are not necessary-I do not think that many people need a switch for beeping sounds-but an additional control ring at Sony 200-600 mm F/5.6-6.3 would have been welcomed in my opinion.
Nevertheless, this is a small thing. The lens still has more handling-related characteristics than most other lenses, and it does not have to compete directly with lenses such as 600 mm F/4 grams in the first place. This is as a budget option, and given that, it punches the handling department well over its weight.
