Google is testing a twist for the placement of Gemini in Gmail for Android that restores the account switcher in its original placement.
When Gemini side panel (officially “known as”Gmail Q&A“) Was introduced for Gmail for Android and iOS, the Google account moved to the left along the switcher search bar. Sparkle found to capture reserved space reserved to switch accounts in every other first-party apps in all platforms.
It can change now. With some scope accounts, now we are seeing that the profile avatar was restored in the top-right, in which Mithun moved to the left. The pellet size bar shrinks as a result, but the touch target is still quite large.
Old vs new

With this design, the Google account preserves the uniformity and muscle memory of the switcher, when the accounts are tap or swipe to switch quickly. We are looking at this change (with version 2025.03.02.x) on several devices signed in a particular account, but it is not widely available.
In other gmail for Android (and iOS) changes, Google is Twice Attachment menu when composing emails. Tapping the paperclip icon will show a modified menu with photos, cameras, files and drive options. The shortcut is new to take a new picture, now everything is with the icon. This change is not yet widely rolled.
