A surefire way to jazz up any outfit is to choose interesting shoes, whether brightly colored or high-heeled. Bold, mismatched footwear choices were very popular with Allison Bornstein’s “”.wrong shoe theory“2023. But this year it seems we’ve gone past “wrong” and into downright weird.
Jennifer Lawrence And kylie jenner Both rubber-stamped non-shoes this year, Lawrence in a nude mesh sock-shoe from The Row and Jenner in a semi-sheer nude latex courgette heel. Meanwhile, FKA twigs and bella hadid The duo challenged the laws of physics with their pioneering footwear choices: while promoting Crow, Twigs wore a pair of craggy Windowsan platforms with an impossibly pointed heel, while Hadid wore a pair of stacked Trompe L’Oeil Jacquemus sandals at the Cannes Film Festival.
Animalistic shoes also got a moment in 2024. Not only did Maison Margiela tabbies continue to prove their lasting power, but Greta Gerwig brought a pair of split-toe heels to the Croisette. Elsewhere, Lana Del Rey hit the Met Gala carpet in a pair of Alexander McQueen hooves seen by Sean McGirr. And that’s to say nothing of the various slippers, shoes, and of course Crocs, which made it a year in luxurious footwear.
