Text details provided by architects. The project arises from the initiative of a young couple, which is the goal of converting an old family house into their home and a place where they will start a family.
Built on just four meters wide plots in the 1950s, the original house had a fragmented layout compatible with the needs of the time. Although the house was in the right position, its layout did not meet the functionality and contemporary concepts of open spaces that the owners wanted. This allowed for the preservation and enhancement of many basic elements, such as the Catalan Valted roof and part of the original ladder, which were integrated in the new offer.
From the perspective of a design, the purpose was to draw a relationship with the creative penance of the original building, establishing a relationship with the local Mediterranean architecture. Authentic materials were used with a natural character, such as pine wood, ceramic tiles and handmade shiny tiles.
The intervention focuses on opening spaces and designing a garden and roofs with three bedrooms and two bathrooms that provide functionality. The first step included integrating this space into the living room and demolish the internal courtyard to enable a roof on the upper floor. This re -combination allowed its direction to be reversed to reach the ladder. From these large openings, the kitchen was opened to the living room and visually expanded into the garden, respecting the original ratio of the windows.
On the upper floor, the false roof was removed to create a double-hit space that confirms the height and a sense of vastness by compensating the narrow four-meter width of the house. To create most locations, the master bedroom does not reach the roof, allowing the construction of a storage area and including natural light from the exterior.
Finally, in the garden, existing structures were demolished to maximize the available outer location. The floor spreads from the interior, creating a continuous slab that increases the outdoor living area, leading to a liquid living between the interior and the garden.
