Why F1 Imola Gp was still positive for Aston Martin, yet there was no points

The history of Aston Martin with upgrade is Rocky to say at least, the British team is often struggling to find the form as it once starts strap the new parts in its Formula 1 car.

For example, in the last weekend, the British side brought a fleet of updates to the AMR25 and still left the Italian track without a point, leaving it to seventh place in the championship.

But Eston Martin is undergoing a period of regeneration, recently moved to an impressive new campus and added stars such as Adrian Newi. It is also one of the latest wind tunnels on the current grid, which eventually burst into life after the start of the 2025 season.

This is why Aston Martin’s start of 2025, in which it is ending 11thFernando Alonso) And 15th (Lance walk) In Emola, it adds to frustration.

Aston Martin team principal Andy Cowell said, “This is one of those where you may definitely be disappointed about disappearing at a point in less than a second time.”

But this does not tell the full story of the weekend of the squad, as it showed the real promise till the Grand Prix. Walking in eighth place, the highest season so far, while Alonso placed his AmR25 in fifth place – his best performance since 2024 Chinese Grand Prix.

As a result, the pair seemed neither to finish a point-pay, yet a full security car as well as a combination of virtual safety cars surrounded the opportunities of Eston Martin as others found a free stop.

Nevertheless, Cowell still said that there are positivity that the team can take from Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

“Positive is that we have brought an update that has been intensified the car and, until this point comes out a random VSC (virtual safety car), everything was going well,” Cowell said.

“So, I think everyone is disappointing, but I think till tomorrow everyone will be like ‘Come on right, let’s do more, let’s look at all the areas of the car and how we push more.”

The feeling was echoed by Alonso after the race, as they said that the team was “finally” a strong car that could score a point on merit “.

This is the opposite of this time last year, when Eston Martin began to upgrade his AMR24 and the performance was seen backwards. Now, the team has finally managed to bring new parts that make a real difference on the track.

“We were struggling with last year that we were making updates that could be good in a high -speed circuit but could be worse at a low speed,” Cowell said.

“What we have done has been brought to an update that is good at low, medium and high speed and therefore it is a positive step.

“How fast is it really? I am not going to announce. I will tell you in Abu Dhabi (season finale).”

And the team clearly believes in new parts. It was chosen to run the Friday practice session in Imola with a driver using the old imagination AMR25 and the other upgrade model. It gave the Aston data directly to compare the same track and in the same position, which Cowell says “the package in every corner was better”.

What’s more, the launch of the AMR25 Kalpana was closed in January, while the upgrade left the wind tunnel once after the 2025 season in March. This means that these are the first part to develop with the new wind tunnel of the upgrade team.

As a result, the data collected in Emola will enable the Aston team to better calibrate its new tunnel, which will help set it to the right path for the next step of upgradation. This, Cowell says, means that Eston is eventually moving in the “right direction” as it works to change its season and prepare for the new rules of F1 in 2026.

Therefore, while Aston Martin may be disappointed to add no extra points to his race in Imola, data and learning that move away from the race can prove to be even more important for the future of the side.
