After the Italian Grand Prix of Formula 1, Red Bull’s Max Wins by Max VerustapaneBoth advisors were hurry to praise Helmut Marco and his driver the new team principal Laurent Mcis.
Marco insisted that Red Bull has no longer seen this part of “new philosophy” and not seen the simulator’s eye. Vastapane said that Macis asked the correct questions in the race weekend, an important aspect in communication with both drivers and engineers.
The Principal of the French team, however, rejected any suggestion of his contribution to Vastapane’s third win – the first after the dismissal of Christian Horner. Asked about his personal impact on Monza’s success, Macis replied: “The answer is very easy, the level of my contribution is zero.”
Laughter started laughing at journalists in the hospitality region of Red Bull, but the Mask is doubled: “And I am either not joking.
Pressed again on the same subject, Mecis refused to decorate her role once more. In his view, the credit team and Vastapane have a significant role in sticking with a set-up which was also low-downfores by Monza standards. “Our only role is to ensure that the talents we are are placed in the right circumstances to express that talent best. It’s only one thing we are doing, so this is the limit of contribution. This is the matter, nothing more than that.”

How much did Mekies actually impress when Red Bull’s Monza wins?
Although humility is admirable, the role of Macis was more than her suggestion. Marco and Vestapen’s positive comments did not come from anywhere.
The fine story is that the part of the better performance of the red bull in Monza was in the pipeline for a long time – actually Dating Verustapane back before calling the car “a monster” – while another part was down for execution, and in that regard, in that relationship, partially down to the mecies.
The first factor included both the RB21 package and its set-up. Last year, there was a lot of discussion about Red Bull with a dedicated low-downfores rear wing for Monza, but this year the team had one. This underlines how Red Bull had determined to take revenge after last year’s disappointment.
Apart from that Monza package, a lesson was also learned from the wrong set-up option in 2024. Both Marco and Horner admitted that Red Bull had run the wrong wing level last year – the team did not repeat anything.
“You only do a lot of things for Monza. You only do wings for Monza, you only set-up for Monza, so there was a very difficult point last year and people had done a wonderful work last year and were coming here with very specific solutions. It seems that they overshot the target-the meaning that the car was really much better than other tracks.”

They were working long before promoting Macis, so they had no direct effect. But a difference should be made between the development side of the car and the operational side of things – as Vastapane said. He said on Thursday, “This year the car is just what it is,” but in operations, the details can change – and according to the team’s inner sources, it is slowly happening.
Mecis’s resume is valuable in that regard, as Verustapen admitted on Sunday night: “With the engineering background with Laurent, he is asking the engineers the correct question-a normal-knowledge question-so I think it actually works well.” Without a technical background, a team boss cannot challenge the technical department to the same extent, which also suggests the tendency of more engineers that being promoted in the top role – Andrea Stella et. McLarenOn james walls WilliamsAyo Komatsu in Huss, and now in Red Bull.
Another factor is that with the in -charge of the makers, Red Bull tried to rely a little more on the driver’s response rather than purely numbers, as Marco explained in Padock: “Now the idea that whatever simulation shows us, to take it, but with the experience that Max has and with that experience that our racing engineers are not blind.
The driver’s tendency to hear more was clearly seen in Monza when Vastapane insisted on sticking to the qualifying with a low-downfores set-up heading. “While it seemed much more difficult to correct the balance with that lower downforce level, Max has been very strong and good that is pushing us to keep us on the car and find other solutions to balance it.
The team opted for other set-up adjustments instead of adding more wings, and this is the correct call out. Vastapane is entitled to credit for this, but Macis: The Triangle of Driver, Team Boss and Technical Department did a good job in Monza. A part of it comes down to communication – okay area Vastapane and Marco have been the most positive about now.
Is there a search for harmony after inner strength struggle?
The mild reaction of the Macis in light of the internal strength conflicts of the Red Bull in the last 20 months is also interesting. A part of this issue was that the ‘Austrian camp’ felt that Horner was trying to gain a lot of power in many areas of racing operation of Red Bull. The story of Thai shareholders was partially that he was an important person behind the success of the Red Bull, as the owner of the long -serving team.
Although it is correct to a extent given the Horner’s remarkable 20-year track records (eight drivers titles and six Constructors Championships), Mecis has so far chosen the opposite attitude. He refused to end his role – and really reduced it, at least in Monza. Such humble goes down well with some parts of the squad after turbulent months.

It was also noteworthy that Technical Director Pierre Cove was sent to the podium. In short, the Mecis could go to its first win as a team boss, but instead – which has come under more public pressure than before due to the weaknesses of the car – was pushed forward. Including everyone in success and sharing the spotlight fits with the approach so far. Wache enjoyed his podium trip, meeting correspondents behind the Red Bull Garage after the ceremony with champagne at his glasses.
Such ‘People Management’ should not be underestimated in modern F1. It also fits a broader tendency among engineers on the hull. Stella et McLaren Similarly, the team puts the team in the limelight and always avoids claiming any credit. Can Red Bull now follow a path similar to McLaren. A lot will depend on its own power unit for 2026, and as Mecis has already accepted, it remains “a mount Everest to climb”. But in Monza, the new direction that follows the Red Bull has given a small and unexpected moment of least success, and this morale can prove to be important.
All things were considered, the contribution of Macis certainly was more than zero – but it is both commendable and, in a way, smart that he chose not to say so on Sunday night.
