The owners of the house wanted a cover structure for a pergola or external entertaining, but it was the range of their vision. “We talked about attaching it,” Landscape designer Jamie says about the McCorn structure, “but we decided that it was very small and we needed to keep everything open.”

He also opted for a sufficient roof cover. With a pergola, “You can’t go out in the rain, and you don’t get that solid shade or interior. And I know (home owners),” say McCorn. He angered the roof to open the look in the tight yard without losing any shelter or security.

The stained Douglas Fir Wood Beam and Post Black-Pent Douglas pop against the ceiling of the cedar, anchor the structure in the yard and complement the colors and details of the house. “We never want the landscape feel disgusting. It needs to feel harmonious with the house, ”says McCorn.
