This dreamy property in the coastal mountains south of San Francisco already had a pool, lawn area, gardens and mature trees, including a large Japanese maple and several oaks. The owner of the house wanted to make the landscape design more sophisticated, harmonious and colorful, so he hired the landscape architect of Bay Tree Design Lisa Howard. Their four boys were providing a lot of places at the top of their wishlist, 4, 4 through age 4, could play.
The new design has a courtyard, seating space, container garden and more. “My customers prefer to entertain large groups, but (they) also wanted a comfortable spot to collect small groups,” says Howard. He created outdoor rooms so that the guests could spread during the parties. The new garden area allows homeowners to grow fresh flowers for parties, and herbs to garnish homemade pizza.
