The current kitchen did not have a dining area. “They have a formal dining room, but my customers are not formal people,” Tate says. “It is good for a family to have a comfortable place for eating breakfast, coffee and play cards.”

Accordingly, he designed a custom banquet. “I had never done a scalped edge before before,” says Tate. “I like to collect images of vintage furniture that I like, and a bench with a scalloped edge below inspired the idea.” The contractor cut the wooden circles, then cut them into half and combined them with the top of the piece to make the scallop. The wood is maple with a walnut stain.

Tate also designed the table. “First, the foot came closer to the edge. But my customers are both tall and have long legs, so I adjusted them to give them enough legrooms,” she says. He also gave the table the basis of a heavy metal for stability. The chairs bring a modern element to the mixture. Fabrics on Bhoj Kush is kingdom by Fays Textiles.
