After staying in his Michigan house for nearly 20 years, these retired people were ready to deal with their dated, tight kitchens, which was cut from the dining room from a partition wall. They loved the heat of the volted, stained parquet, but wanted more open, functional space. He turned to designer Oliver Macarthi, who uses Hauz Pro software to help.
Macarthi removed the partition and expanded the kitchen in the dining room, adding 180 sq ft. The new layout adjusts a large island with seating and storage. Light mocha and soil gray-brown add two-tone cabinets depth and maximize storage, while some glass-front units and a wide gliding window over the farmhouse sink feels light. Handy pullout, a welcome drink nook, durable sand -colored porcelain tile flooring and smooth black tools give the kitchen a sophisticated finish.

First: The 150-class kitchen, its deep tupe walls, beige tile floors and a volted stained parquet, felt cramps. A long, narrow island had tight seating space from two sides, and small honey oak cabinets offered limited storage. A heavy stainless steel refrigerator held the cabinetry into the past, making the footprint even smaller. “Felt proportionate to the size and overall layout of the kitchen,” Macarthi says.
The refrigerator and the range were sitting separately from the dining room on the wall, separating a pass-the-through on top of the range. “It was not very safe,” says Macarthi. A sink and short run of the cabinets line the adjacent back wall, while the wall on the right placed the shallow pantry closet. The door in the back corner connects to the garage.

The kitchen size increased by 150 to 330 sq ft by taking the partition down and eliminating the formal dining room. Macarthi says that the couple used the previous joint to create a small food and family area. Because most of the food is now enjoyed on the new island, losing the formal dining room was not a matter of concern.
The extended footprint allowed for a huge island with seating and storage. The perimeter cabinets in light mocha are contrasting with the earthen-gray finish of the island of the island. “When there is an opportunity to look a two-tone look in such a large size location, it gives you the opportunity to color a more statement to the island and go with a more neutral, timeless color on the circumference,” says Macarthi.
A bronze-finish on the island coordinates with linear chandelier island base and oil-rubbed bronze hardware. Tan performance leather bodies stool provide comfortable seating feature. A black stainless steel french door refrigerator now sits on the wall of the sink. “Also with the entry point from the garage, it is a good place for them to take off grocery items,” says Macarthi.
He used Hauz Pro to manage and estimate the project.

The walls depicted a muted hot white (sanctuary by Sherwin-Villiams) with creamy white trim (white sand by Sherwin-Villiams), which creates a light, comfortable background. “The creamy white we have used here does not have yellow -colored undertones that some people do not like,” says McCarthy.

Enlightened glass-fruits lighten the upper cabinets range wall and show fine glass-made substances and dishes. “Since they have a ton more storage than before, we felt that it was a good opportunity for that open performance,” McCarthi says.

From canned accessories to cooking equipment, pullouts on either side of the range are required. The pullout on the left consists of a knife block and utensils such as ladals and spatulus for holders, while the pull in the foreground of this photo stores the baking sheet and pan.
Above the range, an aged combines a focal-point design texture and depth of matte ceramic tiles with an aged bronze finish. “I felt that it was an opportunity to break the space and add a fun or unique element,” called Macarthi.
