Not much was done to this England homeowner’s 1950s bungalow. Its divided rooms and dated style are in need of massive updating. The homeowner, a single retiree who travels often but likes to entertain when she’s at home, told the designer sarah slade Several wish list items to get started: an open layout, more natural light, a better visual and physical connection to outdoor areas, and midcentury Miami Beach style.
Slade, who the homeowner found on Houzz and who uses Houzz Pro business software, knocked down several walls to create a party-friendly open layout. A glassed-in addition with retractable doors at the front of the house opens the kitchen and seating area completely to the outdoors. Curved white kitchen cabinetry with gold details shows off a classic Miami Beach vibe. Light blues, greens and pinks add splashes of color to the decor and artwork.
