Viltrox Fe 85mm F/1.4 Pro Review: Acuce and Character at low cost

The viltrox fe 85mm f/1.4 Pro is a professional-quality lens, but it is not offering the highest-end from Viltrox. The lab series is the major line of optics from Wiltrox, and this is a $ 599 deal with this pro series lens, I began to wonder if it was great to come true.

An 85 mm F/1.4 lens is the most preferred piece of my glass. If I had to choose only a lens, it would have focal length and aperture. The field of view finds me natural as a walk-round lens, and the shallow depth of the region and good low-light performance make it quite versatile. Certainly, F/1.2 versions are very dynamic, but I prefer small size and light weight that gives me 85 mm F/1.4. All this is to say that when Wiltrox 85 mm F/1.4 Pro came under my possession, I was excited to try it.

Viltrox 85 mm f/1.4 Pro is a great option for pictures on a budget.

Viltrox 85 mm f/1.4 Pro Review: What does it feel

Unlike the lab lens from the Wiltrox, this 85 mm Pro has a lot of basic and traditional body design, and I like it very much. Lab lenses use an LCD panel that shows distance to aperture and focus that is visually impressive but also has a poorly indexed aperture ring. The Viltrox 85 mm f/1.4 Pro goes back into a classic aperture ring that converts the third-stop increment. If you like it for video work it can also be set for smooth rotation.

A Wiltrox AF 85 mm F/1.4 FE is showing the close-up scene of the lens, focus and aperture markings, textured focus ring, and the product branding on a dark, blurred background.
I like traditional aperture ring design on this lens.

The aperture ring can be set for smooth or step functionality.

The lens has a standard bayonet style lens hood and takes a 77 mm filter. There is also a smooth-mood manual focus ring and a adaptable button on the lens. The lens also has an AF/MF selector switch and is made completely with sealing. There is also a underlying USB-C port under the lens mount for any required firmware updates.

This especially 85 mm weighs about 28.2 ounces (800 grams), so it is keeping in mind my desire for compact walk-round lens, but is slightly heavier than the competition. There is a dual-sound-oral motor that runs the lens elements quickly and I had no problem with action.

Viltrox 85 mm f/1.4 Pro Review: How it shoots

The flare resistance viltrox is very good at 85 mm, with only a little ghosts in the scene, which is also present on closing the aperture. I did not notice any washed areas, and when the backlit portraits and bright lights for the sunset, the lens performed well. While shooting at a broader aperture, a slightly longitudinal colored alphabet is a small, which needs to be seen out. It causes a color fringing in the foreground and background areas that fall out carefully. This is not a terrible result from any stretch, but you will see a little.

It is a large front element, but the lens coatings do a good job to prevent provoking.
The sun is set over a rugged mountain landscape, putting an orange and purple glow in rocky slopes and distant lines under a clear sky.
The flare resistance is good, and the sun shooting is not a problem.

A man with black hair and facial hair places a vintage camera on his face, which is watching carefully on his subject. The light is warm and soft, suggested sunset or sunrise.

Santiago is a vibrant city filled with interesting scenes.

A papers from a white wall mixed with an airplane -a minimal black sculpture, casting a sharp triangular shade that increases its geometric shape.

Bokeh is going to do a big idea for the 85 mm lens in this way. This lens can achieve very shallow depths of the area, and cheap lens sacrifices good bokeh to fall under the budget. The Wiltrox 85 mm F/1.4 has some very interesting bokeh and in some situations, it also has a very classic looking character. At f/1.4, a strong cat’s eye has an effect for specular highlights and it makes a kind of form of a kind for images. It is almost a pseudo-patzwall effect, and it is quite cute.

Stopping the lens gives us a smooth infection in focus planes, and does not have a very rigid look for them in the background. Specular highlights have a minor soap bubble character, but are clean and free from onion rings. Overall, Viltrox is not going to give sophisticated experience Sony G-Master 85 mm F/1.4 IIBut it has some interesting character, and I really like the results of money.

A narrow, curved passage is surrounded by a metal railing and green -rich leaf, in which the steps of the stone appear forward and filter the sunlight through the leaves above.
The Swirli Bokeh effect is very classic-dinner, and I like it very much.
Two dark sculptures of sitting figures face a small fountain on a city road, with a rainbow lens foreground and blurred buildings and traffic lights in the background.
The shallow depths of the region and soft background on this lens are excellent.
A close-up of a tree trunk at night creates a bokeh effect in the dark background with a thin wire and with blurred yellow light.
Specular highlights have a bit of soap bubbles, but otherwise clean.
A man dressed in cap and dark clothes sits cross-leagged over a park bench, sees his phone and holds a coffee cup, with green grass and background of trees.
The 85 mm f/1.4 lens is very good to separate the subjects from its surroundings.

A person sits alone on a park bench in black and white, which encounters a wall with cut-out human figures, surrounded by scattered leaves and soft sunlight.

It is also an incredibly sharp lens. The expansion on F/1.4 is excellent and only a little better in context of contrast when preventing aperture. The corners are also impressive: at F/1.4, a little bit of wigging, but the expansion is excellent, even in more extreme corners. To stop the lens, brought a little more opposite and exposure out of the corners, but the lens is sharp that you focus it where you focus on it. I also checked the lens breathing, which appears as a change in the field of view when focusing from far from far from far away to far. Certainly there are some exist, but if you were doing video work on regular portrait distance and pulling from one subject to another, you will not see much shift.

Lesson, photo, color bar and a side-by-side comparison chart with test patterns
The expansion of the center is extraordinary, even at f/1.4.
A Canadian one-dollar bill, eye chart, and geometric shapes are displayed above the two-labeled camera test shots: left at f/1.4 and showing the difference between right, sharp and vice versa at f/2.8.
The corners are surprisingly sharp. Most portrait lenses will not worry about maximum faster in corners.
The mountain range under a clear sky, the observatories and the layers of the hills appearing on a distant ridge would disappear in the fog; A curved road crosses dry, golden landscape.
An 85 mm can be great for portrait, but you can also compress the landscape.

Viltrox 85 mm f/1.4 Pro is my new favorite on e-mount

So we have a lens that focuses quickly and gives fast results. It is also well correct and has interesting bokeh. I traveled to Santiago, Chile with this lens, and appreciated how compact it was. The weight is not off-put, but it is slightly higher than the Sony 85 mm f/1.4 g-masters. I am very excited about a lens that have some flaws, an interesting look, a rugged build, and all are for only $ 599.

A woman in black clothes paves a city with a broom and dustpan on a linen day; Trees, a garbage bin, and people appear in the background.

A man with brown hair and glasses, wearing a dark coat, painting a mountain landscape on a canvas, portrays a mountain landscape with blurred trees and buildings in the background.

A pronounced blue sky under a distant snow -covered mountains grows the buildings of high apartments before, in which a layer of clouds partially covers the mountain slopes.

The value for the dollar is amazing at the time when prices go up only and the “Pro” monicor on this lens definitely remains to its name. I do not like only one thing about this lens, the fact that it is only available for Sony e-mount. I think many RF and Z users would like to get such quality for such quality.

The fallen autumn leaves float in a rain puddle with a curb on a city road, surrounded by a yellow painted line and wet pavement.

Black and white photos showing a statue reflected in a puddle, which also featured a silhouette of palm trees and a streetlamp in water. This view is slightly blurred, giving it a dreamy quality.

Close-up of delicate fern leaves in focus against a blurred red background, with an indiscriminate shape in distance.

What are the options?

Sony fe 85mm f/1.8 is a terrible lens, but it leaves a stop of light and costs exactly the same money. G Master 85 mm F/1.4 II is unique in this range with some best optics and bokeh that you can buy. However, you will really have to pay a large price to achieve it. Sigma 85 mm F/1.4 gives similar results with very clean bokeh, but it will also run you more than doubled.

Should you buy it?

Yes. If you have an e-mount camera and want a good 85 mm portrait lens, the Wiltrox is a no-grain for the 85 mm f/1.4 Pro price.
