Ancient Chinese craft comes in Venice

Located in the garden near the terminus of the Arsenley exhibition route, the Chinese paper umbrella of the made is a place for a sculpture intervention and break. The umbrella is manufactured with Xuan paper – an absorbent, fibrous material is traditionally used for calligraphy – treated with many layers of Tung oil. This process renders it both water-resistant and transportation, so that it is sometimes able to withstand the sea conditions of Venice, filtering the light from changing ways.

Visitors step below Beijing-based Architects‘The canopy leads to a change in the atmosphere Biennale Ahead. The light is softened, the shade is stretched and contract over the day time, and the temperature is realized because the air is transmitted through the permeable seam of the paper. The scale of the structure retains an intimacy, inviting individuals to shake, reflect, or simply inspect the weather and daylight rhythm as they pass through space.

A paper umbrella with responsible technology

Beyond its content craftsmanship, MAD incorporates contemporary environmental technologies in its Chinese paper umbrella. Embedd on top of the umbrella is active in response to a high temperature, cools the shaded area below and subtle the sensory properties of the space. The integration of the smart dynamic light (SDL) system of opple lighting allows the canopy to adjust the changes in light and weather. This dynamic difference between natural and artificial systems exposes the sensitivity of the structure to its environment.

The surface of the paper, although is treated for durability, is designed to replace over time. Materials in the form of sun, moisture and air season, umbrella will slowly become yellow and soft. This slow change is not hidden, but is hugged as part of the design. The intention of Mad is not in the form of decay, but as a state of co -existence with the natural world.
