UPS could begin “disposing” of imported packages if parcels fail to meet U.S. Customs regulations, the shipping giant told Fox Business on Friday.
The company said import regulations and documentation requirements continue to change rapidly trade dispute This has made it difficult for workers and consumers to navigate the customs process.
The company has implemented new procedures to handle stranded parcels at UPS centers across the country when shipments can’t be cleared due to missing information or incomplete paperwork.
“In cases where we can’t get the information we need to clear a package, there are two options,” UPS spokeswoman Natasha Amadi told Fox Business on Friday. “First, the package can be returned to the original shipper at their expense. Second, if the customer does not respond and the package cannot be cleared for delivery, the disposition of the shipment is in compliance with the U.S. customs regulations,

UPS added The company “makes every effort to deliver every package to its destination in compliance with federal customs regulations.” About 90% of the packages that arrive are approved on the first day of admission, Amadi said.
“We made more than three contacts per package and helped clarify the gap between the information presented and the information required,” Amadi said.
“To continue to serve all of our customers and move shipments efficiently through our network, we are making numerous efforts to clear up delayed shipments and obtain the information needed to deliver them.”

According to the company, the recent change in the rule has led to an increase in stranded parcels at UPS centers across the country.
