The responsibility for East Jail on Alkatraz was given to the Interior Department to be a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in 1972, operated by the National Park Service and converted to the site into a tourist attraction, producing millions of dollars per year.

NPS is also working on the $ 40 million rehabilitation of the Ghat of Alkatraz Island, which was first built in 1939, which is expected to be completed at the end of this year.
According to the National Park Service, Alkatraz was named as a National Historical Landmark in 1986. That designation can be considered at the owner’s request or to withdraw by the interior secretary.

Trump said in Sunday’s post Social media Platform Truth Social that he is directing federal agencies to “reconstruct, and open Alkatraz!”
