Trump, who told reporters on Air Force one about his plans on Sunday afternoon, is expected to announce a new tariff on steel and aluminum imports on Monday. Trump also planned to announce “mutual tariff” – or tariffs directed in countries implementing duties on American exports on Tuesday or Wednesday.
“Very easily, if they accuse us, we accuse him,” Trump told reporters. “If they are charging us 130% and we are charging them nothing, then this path is not going to be.”
“Every country will be mutual,” he said.

The latest tariffs echo the 25% steel tariff and 10% aluminum tariffs, which was done by their first administration in 2018. At that time, America was the largest importer of steel, while China was the largest exporter of Steel.
Similarly, the US is still one of the largest importers of aluminum, with Germany and China.
On 1 February, Trump introduced the International Emergency Economic Forces Act (IEEPA), which Involved 25% tariff 10% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico and imports from China. Tariff received mixed reactions from consumers and negative pushbacks from foreign leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Shinbam.
