TOCA frees the engine and car model for the next BTCC rule

The engine choice for the Next Rulasset of the British Touring Car Championship to be introduced for a five -year period in 2027 will be free.

This is the biggest revelation in the announcement of the regulations of BTCC organizer TOCA, not the freedom of running car models on sale in the UK.

In addition, the highly successful NGTC rule, introduced in 2011, has been largely taken to the new era.

It is mentioned by Toka supremo Alan Gauv in a special interview with Autosport in March 2024When he explained that, for the cost reasons, the new generation of cars would be a development of those who exist currently existing, of which no current model was obsolete.

By that end, TCA’s statement said: “The goal of the new regulation cycle was to protect the property of the teams by maintaining eligibility for the existing machinery, while additional car and engine options, which expands opportunities.”

On the engine, “any Btcc-Homologist can be used-not essential from the original manufacturer of that specific car”.

This means that, in principle, BMW Team West Surrey Racing will be allowed to use the Swindon-built Hyundai Powerplant run by Exceller 8 Motorsports and resolve the racing, or vice versa.

Engine builders will be forced to supply their powerplant to any team, which want them to use, but the M-Sport-made Toca customer with the exception of the engine-50% area with a cap, which is available to all teams.

Additionally, the currently available cars will be allowed as new in the UK, as long as the manufacturer has attendance in the market, and “the car is basically equipped with an internal combustion engine, as it is the purpose as the primary tool of power and of course, in accordance with the size and body rules”.

For example, theoretically, Volvo can allow S60 – the Swedish manufacturer withdrew from the UK Salon and Estate Market in 2023, but continues to sell SUVs in the country – while some internal combustion MG outside the UK is only available.

Among the manufacturers currently represented in BTCC, Honda will not be sold to the new version of Civic Type R in the UK, detailed new versions of Ford Focus, while Hyundai I30 N Fastback is currently running, but now only abroad.

“I thank all my teams for their invaluable input in the last two years,” Gau said.

“Every team wanted BTCC to continue with the development of our great technical rules … which was undisputed. Therefore, our current stakeholders now assurance that their major components and capital investment will be valid through 2031.

“This growth of regulations also offers teams with more options through new models and a host of engines that can now be eligible for BTCC.”
