TOCA frees the engine and car model for the next BTCC rule

The engine choice for the Next Rulasset of the British Touring Car Championship to be introduced for a five -year period in 2027 will be free.

This is the biggest revelation in the announcement of the regulations of BTCC organizer TOCA, not the freedom of running car models on sale in the UK.

This means that, in principle, BMW Team West Surrey Racing will be allowed to use the Swindon-built Hyundai Powerplant run by Exceller 8 Motorsports and resolve the racing, or vice versa.

Engine builders will be forced to supply their powerplant to any team, which want them to use, but the M-Sport-made Toca customer with the exception of the engine-50% area with a cap, which is available to all teams.

Additionally, the currently available cars will be allowed as new in the UK, as long as the manufacturer has attendance in the market, and “the car is basically equipped with an internal combustion engine, as it is the purpose as the primary tool of power and of course, in accordance with the size and body rules”.

For example, theoretically, Volvo can allow S60 – the Swedish manufacturer withdrew from the UK Salon and Estate Market in 2023, but continues to sell SUVs in the country – while some internal combustion MG outside the UK is only available.
