Stela Sean always preferred to travel. After graduating from college in Northern Carolina, she moved to New York City to pursue a career as a writer in a major journey publication. But in August 2022, Sean’s life as a healthy 26 -year -old changed forever.
Shaun was diagnosed Stevens-Jonsan Syndrome (SJS), a rare but severe disorder affecting the skin and mucous membrane. After struggling with flu -like symptoms for several days, its temperature increased to 107 degrees. It was with severe pain, and Shaun’s condition deteriorated so much that he was forced into the hospital’s burn center.
“When I was in the ICU, my world was completely shattered at once,” Shaun said. “I was blind for a few months, and some parts of my body were so damaged that I was returning to my normal life, hopping again on an aircraft, looked impossible.”
Miraculously, Sean remained survived by defeating a mortality rate of 30–50%. While he still had to navigate the never -ending array of the doctor’s appointments, chronic pain and uncertainty, the journey once again became part of Shaun’s routine.
