It is easy to see the appeal. The forks are small, easy to handle, and not so sharp that they will harm the surrounding plants – as well, you are definitely already on one hand.

According to the founder of Boulder Green, Mark Bovers, a fork is actually a great option due to its thin prong. Bovers suggest that fork prongs can easily move into the soil and reach the roots – until you put a fork near the weed base. Then, just push down on the handle and pick up.

To target the easiest weeds with thorns, Rob Palmer of Lawn Squad says it is best to target them when they are small.
Small weeds are easy to pull, as they have not developed large root systems that are deeply anchored in the soil. Stretching small weeds increases the chances of getting rid of mourning for good.

Horticulture gloves are a requirementEspecially if you are using chemicals or potentially running in any toxic plants. But according to Greenpal’s gene cabalero, they are particularly important when use a fork for weeding.
Unlike other gardening hand equipment, the fork is not actually designed to use for manual labor. Without gloves, Cablero warns that you are more at risk of being blisters- “I learned it hard,” they say.

- Landscape Fabric: Once you get out weeds with your forks, it is important to keep them away. Bovers say that this can be done with a weed barrier or landscaping fabric.
- Cardboard: Bovers have personally used cardboard with a layer of fabric and wet grass, and he says that it actually prevents weeds from popping up into its yard.
- Wet grass: According to Cabellro, another option for weed management is to use a thick layer of wet grass in your beds. Mulch prevents sunlight and retains the moisture of the soil, which increases mourning by benefiting your plants.
- Healthy plant growth: Cablero says that another option to fight mourning is to focus on the growth of healthy, dense plants that naturally convert weeds. This will reduce the available space and, as long as you stay out quickly at the beginning of the season, the cablero assured that it would prevent weeds from sowing and growing.
