- Cricket’s new device lock 2025 or new Motorola and cricket-branded phone makes an active cricket SIM or ESIM unusable.
- The only way around it is to wait six months, after which the phone will be completely unlocked.
- Developer options are also blocked until the device is unlocked, so Android enthusiasts who care about it should clarify.
If you feel that the typical carrier unlock policies were annoying, then the new device of cricket takes the unlock system to a new level. Instead of unlock your phone or prevent using rival SIM for a few months, New app makes it impossible to use Phone without a cricket sim or ESIM. No Wi-Fi, no home page, no app-nothing works until cricket is active.
these changes Silently rolled down a few months ago And only 2025 or later targets Motorola and cricket-branded devices, although it is certainly possible that other brands may eventually be affected. The only official method around it is to remain active with cricket for six months, after which the lock can be removed.
I honestly see why they want to present something like this. Cricket often offers his phone at an extreme discount, making them an attractive option for a parent who is looking for a cheap “mini-tablet” to give gifts to their children.
For those, there does not seem to be an easy work -round that lets you use the phone without an active SIM/ESIM. When you can remove ESIM and reset the phone, for this you will need to re-load yourself to unlock the device, the other you connect to the Wi-Fi. This is because it is not just an app, but it seems that ROM also has restrictions to prevent its removal without the authority of cricket.
Cricket is giving subsidy to the phone to give the lowest pricing possible, and hence they have the right to introduce software locks in this way. The big issue is that the app also excludes developer options for those six months.
The possible reason for disabled of developer options is that it will make it very easy to enable things such as ADB access and other settings, which may potentially allow someone to bypass the lock app. Nevertheless, I think it is a big deal compared to cricket for many Android enthusiasts, which are not necessarily not looking to bypass, but what is the ability to enable USB debugging for manual file transfer, force activities to reserve for split mode, and other adaptations.
If you are a cricket customer or are interested in being one, for now, I would recommend avoiding Motorola or Cricket-branded equipment if the developer option matters to you (or if you are looking for WiFi-Caval device for that case). The good news is that Samsung, Apple and other brands do not have this issue.
