Seattle’s Portage Bay has a new architectural landmark – designed by a floating home Diana builders in collaboration with Hoshede Vanage ArchitectsPura Vida’s Costa Rikan contained in the concept, appropriately nominated Full away Adopting the unique challenges of life on water celebrates a deep connection with simplicity, balance and nature.
The place of a decades-old houseboat, which once occupied the canal slip, started with a new reinforced concrete float-a foundation that provides long-term stability and modern utility access to plumbing and electrical systems. The house itself was built in Diana’s Balad Shipyard and reminds of the accuracy required for floating architecture in the waterway of Seattle.
The additional 820-class-foot roof deck priority home efficiency and adaptability, at an internal location of 1,780 square feet. Its clean rectangular form uses its footprint the most, while the glass walls at the main level dissolve the border on the three sides of the residence indoors and outside. From the sunrise of Lake Washington to the boat traffic with the lake union, every room is designed to attach to the ever -changing scenes of Portage Bay.
Flexible shading systems, operational screens, and sliding glass doors allow residents to shift between privacy and openness – whether they are enjoying family time or welcome the lively atmosphere of the waterfront.
The inner teak echoes the sea settings through the cabinetry, white oak floor, and carefully designed cabinet that doubles as architectural transition between spaces. Warm, natural finishes bring a sense of timelessness to the boat Vihara community, strengthening the connection of the house.
Above, the primary suit is designed as a retreat that has reached through a double-hit ladder lit with a skylight. The upper level bedroom is completed with a comfortable window seat with a green roof. A lower -level library provides another private location, when a private escape from open living areas.
There is a curved mixture of forests, stones, glass and resin to reflect the spectrum of nature seen in the bedroom.
The roof deck provides a second living space that mixes external comfort with microscopic privacy. The movable equipment, modular tables, and even a rolling fireplace offers flexible configurations for everything from a cool evening to a social gathering. The integrated Sedam roof not only softens the profile of the structure, but also supports the management of storm water-an environmental-conscious node for trichous floating home design.
