Sony has increased American pricing for most of its imaging products, appearing in response to the tariff imposed by the country. While the company raised prices for some of its lenses and cameras in May, it was not an increase in an entire board, such as some gear, such as A7R V, was untouched. However, it is not so now – very few products are left at prices that they were earlier.
To see the changes, we looked at the pricing in B&H, American website and Amazon, and compared them to launch prices and historical pricing on those sites. The growth of items we saw ranged from 7%to 34%, although the average fell to 13%. Even the gear that was initially ignored by tariff pricing is now affected. The above Sony A7R V was still on its original MSRP of $ 3,900 in May, but it is now up to $ 4,200.
Sigma, Nikon and Canon All prices have increased by about 10%, which corresponds to the 10% baseline tariffs placed on imports from almost all countries. 13% of Sony is not beyond this, so it is possible that the game has many factors, or it can be completely tariff-based. Sony has not yet publicly commented on tariff related prices, so there is no official word on how various products have been affected.
Either way, these high prices raise questions about what happens on July 9, when the 90-day stop at full tariff rates is determined to end. After that date, tariffs can jump up to 24% on Japanese goods, 37% on imports from Thailand and up to 46% on Vietnamese products, depending on how the interactions go on. The complete tariff on goods from China on goods lasts from August 12. It appears that a deal with China works, but there is still a chance that prices on Chinese -made goods may increase significantly for American customers. Sony may absorb certain high costs, but given how high some rates are, it is possible that prices may increase even more if trade deal is not done soon.
