Photography can feel like a separate activity, so it is exciting when opportunities come to feel like part of a large community. This is the same with a community art project, final camera project (TLCP). The TLCP was imagined by Lucas Buke and Ryan Dorster, founders of the original retro camera app, Hipstimatic. The project invites people to create a single image, which concludes Art Basil Miami and a show in a book.
TLCP puts a digital spin on the concept of sending a single disposable film camera, in which each person takes a frame. “The idea is simple,” says Buuc. “If I handed you a disposable camera and said, ‘Take a photo. Then pass it with someone else,’ What will happen?” Of course, sending a physical camera around will not work very well for several reasons. Therefore, Buke and Dorster created a camera app that allows participation anywhere in the world.

The app has some railings that help rebuild disposable film camera experience. It is a styling to look like a disposable camera (zero similated display, of course). Like a film camera, participants cannot review or edit their photo before submitting it. You get a chance to take a photo that represents you, your moment, your story. ” Your photo will save Matadata, which includes location, timestamps, frame numbers and personal details that you add.
When you download the app, you can enter an invitation code or join the waiting list. Screenshot: del Basque |
The project is only invited, but you can download the app (if you have an iPhone, as it is only iOS) and if you do not have invited, join the weightlist. Once you take your photo, you can invite six people to join the project.
Buke says that currently there are 4K people on the weightlist, 10K people and 1200 photographs inside the project have contributed so far from more than 50 different countries. The app displays a timeline with those whose number has become active and whether they have taken a photo, so you can monitor the progress.
All the images taken will remain a secret till the Art Basal Miami in December 2025. Photos will also be compiled in a project book.
