In a special interview with Edward Lawrence of Fox Business, the Secretary said that the program – which allows agricultural employers to temporarily hire foreign workers – is not being expanded and will not allow forgiveness for illegal migrants.
“The program is already in the game, and it is already in the law,” he said. “And this is something that the Congress has already determined that there is a need to be for our migrant farm workers so that our American farmers and Rankers have access to the workforce they need.”
“But the one thing that was not being done was how quickly the program could be administered,” he said, saying that the farmers he had spoken to are not sure when and where they would need workers working and if they need them when they need.

“I wanted to make sure that this program has really become overall, what is already, what is the law. So it is not an amnesty program. And it is not a new program either. It’s just going to be better, sharp and more cheap,” he said.
Chavez-Dimer said that the program will now be brought under the Labor Department, while it is currently under Labor, Homeland Safety and State Departments.
“This is going to be a one-stop shop,” he said. “So the office of immigration policy will be under the Labor Department in the office of the secretary. So we can keep an eye on it and provide conservative service to our farmers and rankers in this country.”
The Secretary stressed that the update “is not an extension of anything” and its purpose is to ensure that the program that works.

Asked if there would be enough visa for agricultural workers, he said that the Congress is “related to numbers” but that “we are never going to displace the American worker.”
“We want to make sure that we have American workers,” he said. “But if we do not have them at that time, we want to follow the law and help the Congress. If they want, choose those numbers to change, it is above them. But we will give them the information that they need from the labor department.”
Chavez-Dimer was also asked that he believes that the number of native birth workers has increased by two million people and the number of 543,000 workers has decreased since the President. Donald Trump Returned to office.
