The flat iron house is the home of Michelin-Abhinit Chef Andrew Wong, who grew up in the property and now lives there with his wife Nathali Befond and his children.
studio The task of updating the interior under the leadership of Alex Michaelis and Tim Boyd was tasked to make it suitable for the family, including restoring layouts and circulation to all five floors.
The owners also requested to refresh the internal material palette, which reflects their priority for a minimal aesthetics that develops the memories of holidays in a Moroccan villa.
The location of the house in a conservation area meant that the main Georgian mask could not be replaced, while the footsteps of the building’s shaped footprint explained how the floor plan developed.
The original ladder was squeezed in the back corner of the house, which created a dead zone within the compact footprint. Michaelis Boyd replaced the ladder centrally to separate each floor into the zone with different functions.
Michalas said, “It was important to unlock the house to move the ladder,” Micallis said that the living areas and bedrooms are now located on one side of the stairs, with bathrooms on the opposite side.
“We made it the sculpture heart of the project, a dynamic spine that runs through all five floors, attracts the light to the center of the plan and attracts the light through a large skylight on the top windows and top.”
The organic form of the spiral ladder gives it a sculpture appearance as it intersect with each floor, concluding in a skylight and double-height zero at the attic level.

The basement level is in the family room, which facilitates the opening on both sides, providing access to a pair of courtyards that ensure that natural light reaches a lot of space.
A large, curved sofa complements the lines of the ladder as it descends into the room. The original chimney wall also gradually displays the curved edges that differentiate with Bespok cabinetry.
A guest suite with an enclosed bathroom is adjusted next to the living area. Some more steps go to a utility room with a book storage placed in the original volted basement.
The restructured floor plan is in the position of the family bathroom on the first and second floor at the most narrow point of the property. In these rooms, the freestanding bathtub and rainfall attached by the Japanese-style tiles are adjusted by slowly curved walls.
