Hello everyone, please help give this mother peace of mind and perspective. My son is 5 years old. He has been receiving therapy since the age of 22 months for his speech delay and other autism-related problems. He has come a long way in all other skills, but is still lagging behind in social skills and communication. His speech is improving very slowly. He is lonely, likes to be alone. He has some great strengths: he can mountain bike, swim, loves to travel, loves fruits and vegetables (I know!) and overall he is very sweet and friendly. But what keeps me up at night: What if he can’t communicate? Will he be independent in life (he is our only child and no family lives around us). He is currently good in education. Our goal is to empower her to become the best version of herself, but we are also realistic given her diagnosis.
