Sony has announced the third generation of its premium compact camera series RX1R III, which features 61-megapixel full frame sensor and fixed Zes Soner T* 35mm F/2 lenses. The camera combines the latest imaging technique of Soni to a palm -shaped body designed for photographers looking for full frame quality in a compact form factor.
Lead features and technology
The RX1R III has been paired with Sony’s bio-XR image processing engines with a 61-megapixel full frame exams exams, an ex-ILUMIS sensor on its predecessors. The sensor features anti-reflection coating and leaves optical lower-pass filters to maximize the image quality and resolution.
Sony has equipped the camera with an AI processing unit similar to the people found in its professional alpha cameras. This system can identify and track the human body, head, eye, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains and airplanes. The autofocus system still covers about 78% of the image area with 693 phase-detection points during image shooting.
Despite having a certain 35 mm lens, the camera provides focal length versatility through its move crop shooting function. This feature allows users to switch between focal lengths equal to 35 mm, 50 mm and 70 mm through assigned buttons or dials. When shooting in raw format, users can resume focal length during post-production.
The lens includes a macro ring for immediate switching in the macro mode, allowing a maximum magnification of 0.26x to focus to 20 cm below.
Creative features
The RX1R III contains twelve built-in creative looks that can still be applied to both images and videos. Notable options include FL2 for very vibrant imagery and FL2 for indifferent expression with FL3. Users can accommodate hue, saturation, brightness, opposite and sharpness within these creative profiles.
Design and construction
Sony built a camera body with light magnesium alloy while maintaining hardness. Embedded dial and multi-interface shoe in design are integrated into the body with a flat top surface. Grip design and surface texture provides safe handling.
Electronic viewfinder has approximately 2.36 million dots with XGA OLED technology, offering high resolution and contrast with about 0.70x magnification.
Battery and connectivity
The camera uses Sony’s NP-FW50 rechargeable battery, which provides images of up to 300 up to 300 per charge (when using 270 visible views). A USB Type-C port is enabled to rapidly charge when connected to USB power delivery-compatible devices and allows connection of external power sources for extended shooting sessions.
Accessibility and environmental initiative
Sony includes accessibility features such as screen reader functions and performance magnifications, which are to support blindly impaired users in the extended menu items.
According to Sony’s “Road to Zero” environmental initiative, RX1R III is manufactured in 100% renewable energy features. The original mixed material of packaging Sony is used from recycled paper instead of bamboo, sugarcane fiber and plastic materials.
