Sigma Corporation has announced the world’s first cinema lens series AIZU Prime Line to facilitate rapid T1.3 aperture in all focal lengths. The professional-grade Ezu Prime Line has a dozen prime lenses, with 18 mm to 125 mm, covering all full-frame image areas.
Available in PL and Sony e-mount, Azu Prime Line Large-Format Cinema Lans promises modern sharpness and call Sigma “organic and naturally soft forms”. The company says its new cinema prime lenses, designed from the ground for video and are not optics, “deepens to rich textures and visuals.”
A large part of achieving that goal is sharp and bright T1.3 aperture. Sigma says that this enables the very shallow depth of the aperture area, “beautiful” bokeh, and versatility in low-distress conditions.
Each lens in the AIZU Prime Line Series has an optical system specifically developed for cinema. To achieve a cinematic form, Sigma has worked diligently to ensure that the views appear natural and correspond to the entire lineup. The lens has been engineered to focus on two particularly important factor for cinematographers, to control and focus on deformation of the lens.
While Sigma has announced a dozen Aizu Prime Line Lens, it is worth noting that the series will be released in at least two waves. Eight core lenses, from 25 mm to 75 mm, first launch, followed by 18 mm and 21 mm wide-angle lens, as well as 100 mm and 125 mm telephoto prime. Due to this staggered release plan, complete physical specifications are available only for the initial eight lenses. The remaining four primes are still being finalized, including details about their front diameter and weight.
Talking about the size, the core eight lenses are integrated to 95 mm front diameter in all, which ensures a consistent workflow. These eight lenses, 25 mm T1.3 LF, 27 mm T1.3 LF, 32 mm T1.3 Lf, 35 mm T1.3 Lf, 40mm T1.3 Lf, 50mm T1.3 LF, 65 mm T1.3 LF, and 75 mm T1.3 LF, 125 mm T1.3 LF, 125 mlimters (five inch) range. They only vary slightly in weight, weighing 1.6 kg (3.5 pounds) with the lightest lenses and the heaviest, 75 mm T1.3, 1.7 kg (3.8 pounds). These measurements are specific to PL-Mount versions, and the e-mount version will be slightly vary. Then, 18 mm, 21 mm, 100 mm and 125 mm Sigma Aizu Prime Line Lens is still being finalized.
The eight core azu prime lenses are relatively compact and light despite their sharp T1.3 aperture. The lens is designed to work originally as part of the hand or gimbal-based workflow, part of Sigma promises.
Sigma Aizu Prime Line is a manual focus lens, as is equal to the course for this type of heavy special cinema lens. The close-focusing distance for the core eight lenses ranges from 0.31 m (one foot) to 0.73 m (2.5 ft). Sigma says that this close-focusing distance enables filmmakers to capture the striking close-up shots “, which can help create visual stress and dramatic effects.
While some specifications for wide-angle and telephoto lenses are not yet available, one thing is guaranteed: all 12 Sigma Aizu Prime Line Lens will cover the 46.3-mileimeter image circle. This ensures that lenses provide full-frames and full coverage for super 35 formats, coverage for some latest large-corresponding cameras, including Erie Alexa LF Open Gate and Wistavizon.
Sigma says, “This ability enables filmmaking in different types of projects.”
Sigma Aizu Prime lenses support Zeiss extended data, allowing them to give them real -time lens metadata during shooting. It also allows the support of deformation and shading improvement data, which should simplify editing and VFX workflows.
