Yamaha Boss Paolo Pavasio has confirmed that the Motogp in 2026 has a ‘clear target’ for its new V4 engine race in 2026.
Japanese Team – An inline four is running in only one current Motogp race – developing V4 behind the curtain since last year. The engines and bikes are in accordance with the current rule set, which ends after 2026.
The project is thus additional to prepare a new Yamaha for 2027, when all manufacturers will have to do something different to perfect something different from the 850cc formula.
Speaking at the German Grand Prix on Saturday, Pavasio said the target was for the “current-spec” V4 for the race next year.
While he admitted that it is not a guarantee in any way that Yamaha would achieve that target, he explained that the V4 Project would prove to be a meaningful investment for 2027.
“We have to go to this new engine configuration for 2027,” he said. “It is somehow a bit of an unknown world. The bike is changing, changing the balance of the bike, so you need to learn things.
“That’s why we have decided to estimate the effort and perhaps to make a bike for a year (only) for a year … because we are still not sure that we will run with the new V4-based machine in 2026- it is clearly the target.

“We need to start collecting new information and learn a new kind of configuration, watching until 2027, but already starting from 2026. That is why we are doing what we are doing.
“It is an incredibly challenging, but also an exciting moment. We try to do as much as possible on the current bike to make it more competitive. I think, as we said, we have already seen an increase in a clear performance.
“We are developing a bike for 2026 and we are also working in parallel on the bike for 2027. It is complex, it’s exciting, but also required if we want to come back where we want to be.”
While the V4 bike has only been riding by Yamaha’s test riders, Fabio Quartaro It is expected to try it in September.
His team partner Alex rins Last week in a test in BRNO, the bike first looked into action, reporting that it had reached two seconds per second at two seconds per second compared to the current race bike.
