Plan C is getting bigger. As the brainchild of designer Carolina Castiglioni reaches its sixth year, the glow it offers has deepened and become more attractive – after all there is beauty in aging too. Its expanded collection now includes menswear, shoes, bags and jewellery, all in line with its utilitarian-chic look.
Because of her good nature, Castiglioni is clear about what she wants. Although she’s softened her strict, workwear-inspired designs by introducing some more feminine flourishes, she’s stayed true to her personal style. He likes it childish, non-flashy and functional.
Improving his repertoire he expanded men’s clothing (first presented at Pitti the previous season) by designing similar styles for both sexes, adjusting only to the size and fabric choices. Choose a classic Carpenter jacket, crafted in high-quality wax-coated canvas for men, and refinished in smooth pink duchess satin for women. Expanding into a trench coat with huge square pockets, the jacket gained a soft, feminine appeal with a detachable marabou feather trim on the front. One of the highlights of the collection – a long pleated gray skirt in grisaille – featured the same fluffy accent. It was paired with a geometric jacquard jumper in matching tones that Castiglioni tucked into the waistband of the skirt with expected casualness.
Castiglioni’s creative spirit and love of contemporary art is well represented by his use of a bold block-color palette. For outerwear, they chose dark colors like black and dark gray for the outerwear, with pastel touches on contrasting jumpers, detachable zippered bibs and crisp nylon hoods. While maintaining his penchant for clean, architectural shapes, he also tried his hand at more elegant designs. The case was a strict but fluid burgundy dress, with capelet sleeves that could be transformed into a scarf to tie around the neck, with a dramatic black cape: Plan C goes to a soirée at La Scala.
