Introduced with Pixel 8a in mayAudio continues to watch emoji updates, like seasonal animationGoogle is now testing a more prominent access point in the Phone app.
At the moment, the audio emoji is accessible from one of two locations. The first is with “Video Call” (when available) as a suggestion chip, while you can tap “More” for a grid of call actions, like Call Notes on the Pixel 9 series.
Phones by Google are now testing a larger “audio emoji” button above the keypad, mute, speaker and more. This tablet spans almost the entire width of the calling screen, and brings forward the existing character sheet design.
As a reminder, you can disable audio emoji completely in Pixel phone settings.
We received a report of this last week with the latest Phones by Google beta (version 157), and now more sightings are on the way (via Android Authority) It is being tested. In the screenshot above you can also see the new video calling button In the top-right corner. However, both of these changes have not been widely implemented.
