Petronas has partnered with the Mercedes F1 Team since 2010 as title and technical partner. The partnership is set to continue into the new era of championship rules, which will come into effect in 2026. The new regulations will include the introduction of sustainable fuel, which Petronas will provide to Mercedes.
“We are already on track to develop a greenfield biorefinery and co-processing at our facilities to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as a cleaner and more viable option for aircraft in our effort to support the needs of the aviation industry,” Petronas Downstream CEO Datuk Szali said in 2022.
“This is in line with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), which is expected to be mandatorily implemented by 2027, as well as the FIA’s net zero commitment by 2030 – both of which will impact the logistics operations of F1 teams.”
