“When I was 12 years old, I was finally eligible to take a wheel throwing class and have not stopped since then … I have learned early on the imagination and inspiration that is the key to success in ceramic,” they explain.
Beyond the use of pottery as an outlet to ‘fire’ its creativity, Johnson also appreciates the bond of activity among people.
“I love, regardless of social status or background, my ceramic studio playground levels and all are welcome,” they say.
As he completes it: “Our model is to make a place where no one wants to leave. … Every class is a pot.
California natives also speak of their teaching style, whether a celebrity client or not, he also maintains a laid-back-back approach.
“I give my students a place to make a mistake and really learn. … I let everyone make a mess and feel normal to have fun with the soil. … We really don’t care about how famous you are, and the soil is not careful if you are famous,” he notes.
But celebs definitely care about the soil, and they are showing it with the physical touch thanks to Johnson’s original Hug -e -Pot experience, which they made because of their own blunder.
“After graduating from the Road Island School of Design in 2004, I was working on a piece and accidentally embraced it, but I stepped away thinking that it was absolutely breathfully beautiful,” he shared.
From there, the ceramic experts wanted to catch the same innocence in all their work – and also give others the opportunity to do so.
“Hug’s experience can be taken anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. … We laugh, we cry and really feel every aspect of being alive. It can be a very unexpected emotional roller coaster ride and people are shifted in an indescribable way,” he tells ET.
“Hugs usually feel safe, heard, seen, and happy. It is a very basic, but powerful human experience that everyone is at one point. … People are hugging each other, or even themselves. The utensils are just a ship in the middle of their unique hugs,” Potter is called “Potter.
