Panasonic has released a firmware update for Lumics DC-S9, which offers some small performance-related fixes. The firmware is mostly subtle, but it promises to address one of the slight despair of S9: its slow startup speed.
When we S9 reviewedStart-up time was sometimes above four seconds. On paper, it does not seem much, but it was especially slow. In many situations, this would not be a problem beyond slight discomfort. But when you are trying to occupy something right at that moment, four seconds can mean the difference between or not to get a shot. The official note for the firmware update states, “Startup speed on powering has been improved.” We have not tested the new firmware to see how much difference it makes, but it is good to see that Panasonic is addressing the issue.
Beyond the startup speed, Ver.1.3 also promises to improve operating stability and provides some micro-Fi-related updates, which you can see below all. You can download Ver.1.3 from now Panasonic website,

Change changes due to safety promotion
- When the camera and smartphone are connected directly through Wi-Fi, the connection always requires password authentication. ((Wi-Fi password) menu has been removed.)
- (TKIP) Encryption method is no longer supported when connected to Wi-Fi through access points.
- In network authentication (any encryption) option is no longer supported when connected to Wi-Fi via access points.
- The image transfer facility for PC has been removed through Wi-Fi. (European/Ukrainian model only)
