Who knew that all this would take to achieve its first win of the 2025 season for Ottawa Redblack, which was a trip to Calgary, rain, single-concurrent temperature, strong wind, their backup quarterbacks, and their powerful running back?
It was not very beautiful many times, but it could be a picasso as far as R-Nation was concerned, as Redblack hung to defeat Stampeders with a score of 20–12.
Here I have all my views on the game.
1) For the third week in a row, the Redblack had a new quarterback under the center. Experienced Matthew Shiltz was less than impressive and still nursing with Drew Brown A Hip injury, head coach Bob Dies turned to Dustin Krum.
Although it had been 603 days since the last beginning of Krum for Ottawa, it was not that he was injured or out of football. He dressed for every game in 2024 and 2025, handling all short-yard duties. Nevertheless, it is one thing to take the ground as part of a small package of plays, and it is another one who is a boy who directs every snap of crime.
Given the elements, the statistics of Krum were less than their decisions. And for his credit, the 26 -year -old did everything necessary to secure Ottawa’s first win of the season and the fourth win of his career. He was smart about where he had put the ball – from my count, there was only a risk of throwing – and used his feet effectively, not only to take off and scramble, but also to buy time while keeping your eyes down in the field.
Kum looked calm and did not panic when things broke around him. When he passed the ball, it was clear that he was passing through his reads and taking a safe decision. It was also noteworthy that when he took off and left, he managed to avoid taking big shots. Often during his time with Redblack, Krum has exposed herself when he does scrambles, but against Calgary, he did a good job to know when to go down or step out of the border before absorbing a unnecessarily punished shot.

Their last figures were not beautiful-Nou-22 passed for 111 yards and a touchdown-but those numbers would feel much better if not for seven (yes, you read that right) drops. Kum fired the ball 11 times for 64 yards, out of which three were going for the benefit of 10+ yards. The most important thing is that he never overturned the ball.
Among all, it was as good as anyone expected to give the conditions.
2) Forget recent geo -political events, Canada and US simply do great work together … at least when it comes in Ottawa’s running back. Circumstances lended themselves to run football, which was done by Redblack. Both American William Stanback and Canadian Daniel Aedaboboy were prominently depicted in the team attack, and the two created the most opportunities that they were given to them.
Stanback changed an average of 9.1 yards per car Carry, nine crowds at a distance of 82 yards. The yardfase Total also helped him to receive an important career mark, with a 30,000 -year -old 5,000 Rushing Yard.
For not proceeding, Edoboboy, an average of 9.6 yards per car Carry, replaced 10 yards of opportunities at a distance of 96 yards. He also pasted 17 yards and a pair of catch for a touchdown.

Obviously, not a single such partition will be facilitated in every game, but it seems that the aggressive coordinator Tommy Kondel found a formula that is favorable to win football regardless of the weather.
3) With the weather being such a factor, I am not going to eliminate the aggressive data of the team. Candel despite the fact that successful plays are entitled to plan effectively that the Stampaders knew what was coming. The criticism of an early season has been that Ottawa was not running enough balls, but on Saturday afternoon, Ottawa’s aggressive coordinator dialed 31 runs from 22 passes.
Redbalax managed 349 yards of total crime and went for one-three in Red Zone. Calgary’s missed field goals may take a fan issue of the only play-calls coming in the first quarter. After the return, the ball was selected to bring the ball out of the end field after the return, Ottawa supported his one-yard line after a fine. The team has bought some places to push the ball twice in a row. Instead, the Redlax chose to continuously pass on plays and wound with an imperfection and a sack, causing a protection. Situated, it seemed that it could be played better.
There is no place to shelter in McMahon right now!

4) It is never smart to overcome the same game, and I am definitely not trying to solve all the issues seen from Ottawa’s rescue, but it was an encouraging outing from the group. Defense Coordinator William Fields will appreciate his group’s efforts in being opportunistic and generating five turnover.
Yes, rain made the life of defense easier, but should not be far away from a couple of incredible personal performances under circumstances.
The defensive back was a player of the Adrian fry game, with five defensive tackles – one for a loss on a two -goal line that forced a turnover on the downs – a forced fambal (third of the season), and a special teams to deal with.

Middle linebacker Jowan Santos-Nax was constantly around the ball, causing eight tackles. Canadian security Charlie Ringland made five tackles and gave his first career interception. The 2024 second-round pick Daniel Okopoko made four tackles and a sack. In the 2025 draft, the 33rd pick Mufta Agley made two tackles and tipped the sack of his first career. Finally, the linebacker Frankie Griffin knocked on a pair of both times when heated on Blitz.

5) All defense corrected – two turnover, five total turnover, and Calgary were limited to just 33 percent inside the red zone – some things still need to be cleaned. For example, even in the rain, many people were still opening open in secondary. There is rarely in the competition, something that needs to be replaced immediately. In addition, giving 160 yards on the ground is never ideal.

6) In a day when any receiver did not have more than two catches, the core receiving is still entitled to a lot of credits … for their inhibition. As a group, Ottawa had a huge factor as to why the team was so successful in running the ball. It talks to the players’ character when they are not afraid of dirty their hands in the run game. All blocked well, but especially there were some good blocks in Bralon Edison, Justin Hardy, Eugene Lewis and Kelan White.
The strong inhibitor is one that saves the performance of the group otherwise it is being classified as disappointing, as it was raining, the number of drops was incompetent. Overall, the receiver of Ottawa dropped seven passes. Lewis dropped a pair of (including an easy touchdown), Kalil Pimpatton dropped two (which would have a huge benefit), while White, Stanback and Goslin dropped each with each that raised them square in their hands.
Pimpleton led the team at a distance of 31 yards, followed by Canadian Ruki Kilon White, who followed a team-high 17 yards after the catch.
7) Kudos for the entire aggressive line. Dino Boyd, Drew Desjalis, Jacob Ruby, Daryas Bladech and Darta Lee were indispensable to ensure this with redbalax win. At any time you are earning an average of 7.7 yards per crowd, the big man is earning your paycheck towards the front. As a unit, the aggressive line of Ottawa managed to reach the second level repeatedly and got a hand on the linebackers and defensive backs, helping pushing the pile. Overall, the redblack ended with 239 yards on the ground.
The security of the nearby was solid, as well as the group accepted only one sack on 22 dropbacks. I want to take a second to give Ruby an additional shout. The experienced center is filling up, a position he did not play in 2024 at all. The fact that it is worthy of rain.
8) In the context of special teams, I felt that the unit played very well with the above decision by Dedmon to try to return the missed field goal of Calgary in the first quarter. On the one hand, I understand that Dedmon is an electric return and that in the event of slippery, the possibility of exposing a long return is real. On the other hand, Ottawa would have been put in a very favorable area position, accepting the rose. Whether he was asked to bring the ball out or did he just choose, the decision came back and led a security. Given how close the game was, this decision grew up for about 60 minutes.
As the rest of the group, the Kicker Lewis Ward divided the flaws at a distance of four of its five attempts, 34, 22, 27 and 33 yards. His fourth quarter 48-yard attempt stopped left straight. Richie Leone digested five times, and his 92-yard Rouge was important in drawing Ottawa’s lead in the game.
Former Gi-G James Peter led the route in kick coverage to deal with three special teams. Like Ruby, long snapper Simon Chews despite the weather deserves proposes to shrink well.
9) Here is your strange statue of the game: Redlax never returned the kickoff. After winning the toss, Ottawa postponed to start the game, which meant that he kicked Calgary. Getting out of half, the dias cleverly chose the air, which meant that the Redlax shut down again.
10) I liked that Ottawa used his black house uniform on the road. This look is much better and faster than their current street whites, although I have been told that they are in the process of overhelling.
11) The presence declared at McMahon Stadium was 15,684, but if a few thousand fans were actually present, I would be surprised.
As much as I fully understand that no one wants to sit in the cold, rainy season in June, you get only nine regular season CFL home games per year. Stampders were heading in a game 2–0 to not mention, which they were in favor of winning, so I would have felt that there would be a big crowd of crowds that would be looking at the number of sold/distributed tickets. With that, every person showed full credit to each person.
12) With winning, the dias squad improved 1-2 in the season and made the streak of its victory at McMahon Stadium four consecutive. This win takes Redlack to second place in the East Division as both Toronto and Hamilton are currently the winners. For all noise in recent weeks around the slow start of the team by 2025, Ottawa has a chance to be. 500 next week when they welcome 0-3 argonots at the TD place.
