Chennai Super Kings (CSK) performance has been disappointing in IPL 2025, with franchisees sitting with the rock bottom of the table of the digit after eight matches, out of which they have lost six. Meanwhile, former India cricketer and CSK legend Suresh Raina has continued criticizing his old team. Raina has indicated the lack of local players in the CSK squad, stating that this side is the weakest franchise ever, and it is away from its brand cricket.
“This is certainly the weakest CSK team. I think there is no intention. No one is hungry to win. No one is to disrespect, but the brand that is known for CSK is no longer,” Rain said on his Instagram on his Instagram, in a conversation with Harbhajan Singh.
Raina questioned why CSK does not have many players from his home state Tamil Nadu despite many talented players playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
“See how the local players played in TNPL are doing. B Sai Sudarshan is doing well, he is playing for Gujarat Titans. R Sai Kishore and Shah Rukh Khan are also playing for GT.
“When we were winning, we had the choice of Murali Vijay, L Balaji, S Badrinath, Self, MS Dhoni, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. When you don’t bring local taste, it doesn’t work,” he said.
The CSK veterans have fought for the form this season, which has not been performed with the choice of Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 18 crore) and R Ashwin (Rs 9.75 crore).
On the other hand, even small CSK players have not been able to distribute regularly. High-class foreign players such as Rachin Ravindra and Matheesha Pathirana have not performed along the previous sessions.
Raina also criticized CSK’s approach in IPL 2025, especially in batting.
“When we played in Chennai, we were not playing dot balls. Strike wins rotation. We played appropriate basic cricket. In the first six overs, we showed intentions.
On Sunday, CSK was defeated by the hardcore rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) by a margin of nine wickets. 76 by Rohit Sharma and 68 unbeaten knock by Suryakumar Yadav helped MI defeat CSK with 26 balls in his innings.
