Nikon has created a compelling lineup of Prime lenses which features a rapid aperture and premium optics. The 135 mm f/1.8 plana telephoto and 85 mm and 50 mm f/1.2 lens anchors, bringing incredibly bright aperture to normal borders. It is understandable that the logical forest in wide-angle is going to start with the new Nikkor 35 mm F/1.2S.
The sticker shock is real, but the price of $ 2,799 is somewhat appropriate by extraordinary bright optics. I joined my hands on a pre-production, but took a very testible sample to try out, and put my dislikes aside for a 35 mm focal length, I tested it on the streets of Calgary in the city Wandered to do.
Nikon 35 mm F/1.2S First-Luke: A large aperture requires a large lens
It is a heartfelt lens to take throughout the day. At 37.4 ounces (1,060 g) with 82 mm filter diameter, 35 mm nicker is about the same size and weight of 50 mm f.1/2. Controls are very simple with the manual focus ring and some adaptable buttons that are very large and smoothly twisted. Like all premium S series lenses, Nikkor 35 mm is completely meteorological and feels like a high quality product. The larger the 35 mm f/1.2 felt well balanced on the Nikon Z8, which I tested it. At the end of the day, I did not feel excessive burden by the combo, but this lens would add some noticeable weight and wholesale to otherwise fully loaded camera bags.
Nikon 35 mm f/1.2 s first look: you get what you pay for
Nikon is throwing all possible coating techniques with Meso Anakar Kotings, Arneo coatings and its nano-christal coating in this lens. Who knows what all that means, but I can tell you what it does: Flair is quite well controlled, seeing the big front element on this lens. The wide-open lens displays excellent opposite and minimum ghosts when pointing to the sun. Stopped down, the ghost becomes a little more clear, but is still not very distracted. Sunstar is also quite pleasant with different tines that dramatically spread into the frame.
I found that the twin running glass elements is spright and accurately accurate with STM motors. The Nikon Z8 has a sophisticated autofocating and tracking has worked well with a very shallow depth of the area displaying this lens. Nikon has engineered a well -round aperture design with 11 blades, which is possible to maintain the circular as possible. It is a lens that is capable of very shallow focus, so let’s talk about it.
Nikon 35 mm f/1.2 S first look: Beauty is in Bokeh
As you move towards the broader category of lens design, you get more depth for a given aperture. Nevertheless, a 35 mm lens with the opening of F/1.2 can provide a soft background that shows a subject differently. I really enjoyed this Stark separation while shooting the lens on the road, but is the quality of Bokeh pleasant? The answer is a resounding yes.
Specular highlights F/1.2 produce a pleasant little cat -shaped shape and the background never looks rigid. When the aperture is closed, the highlights are round and even visible. It seems that no soap-bulblass effect or onion rings are either present, which contributes to a large extent infectious infections in the focus range. You can see the ultra-shawl for the focus when the shooting portraits shut down, but I appreciated more natural forms for the background, when F/1.2 is shot at distant borders. Coupled with the fact that Nikon Z8 could shoot super-fast shutter speed with its electronic shutter, I did not need to use ND filters on bright and sunny days. I found myself enjoying the experience of using this lens despite my general despise for this focal range.
Longitudinal chromatic aberrations often ruin the pleasure of using fast glass with very bright aperture. These colors that infect the out-of-focus regions of the image, are very difficult to remove with software and may look quite distracted. I tested the lens on its most wide aperture, to see if there was any color fringing and the results turned out to be excellent. I only saw the most modest of the color pattern and nothing was visible that would cause stress. It is clear that this lens has been engineered to give immense image quality.
Nikon 35 mm F/1.2S First Look: Optical Excellence
Although we could not test the sharpness due to the pre-production nature of the lens, I do not doubt that it is sharp. I tried to shoot a lot of images at f/1.2, to see what results I would get and from the images, I believe that the lens is sharp across.
Whether you like 35 mm focal length or not – and I know that most of you do – no one denies that the new 35 mm f/1.2 is alternately luxurious. I did not hate this lens, even if I usually dislike the focal length. In fact, I loved it a little. It is bound to be a very popular lens and if you can manage expensive $ 2,799 value, there is an optical gem to shoot.
