Sandra Sandor took much of the inspiration for Nanushka’s Pre-Fall 2025 collection from a vacation in Fiji. “I was appreciating the nature around me. I was getting really slow,” she said. “It was quite special. I was in this alert state of mind, and I thought how amazing it would be to take this feeling home: Is it possible to be still amid urban chaos?
Nanushka’s offering is the flower that grows through a crack in the concrete, against all odds. Aptly named “Stop to Smell the Roses,” it’s splashed with bright colors and organic shapes and filled with utilitarianism and office-inspired pieces. The most surprising addition is the pink motif—splashed on silk twill and embossed on the elbow patches of an intarsia knit sweater—which Sandor admits she was initially hesitant to include. “The rose is a literal symbol. “That’s not a very good way to take it literally,” he said.
Sandor turned to his Hungarian heritage when he found an old postage stamp with a rose. “Obviously, I didn’t want to fill the entire collection with roses, but I wanted there to be some space to symbolize this whole sentiment,” she said. Elsewhere, she expressed that sentiment through subtle approaches, such as laser-cut shirtdresses whose cutouts resembled the edges of a stamp, or abstract beaded floral brooches that she affixed to heavy wool jackets.
While the codes of Sándor’s house – the Hungarian Köpzáfa symbol, signature vegan leather, round sleeves and neutral colors – are all present, Pre-Fall 2025 is a reminder to stop and smell the roses. Or, as they say, go touch some grass.
