Miller is “disappointed in everyone” after disappointing two-year stint at KTM

Miller, previously a race winner with both Honda and Ducati, joins KTM in 2023 with a long-term vision of building their MotoGP programme.

Things got worse in 2024 as he struggled to even make the top 10 on a regular basis, largely due to chatter and issues with Michelin’s new front tyre, which led to KTM not offering him a new contract.

Although he was initially unhappy with how the situation was handled, having previously been assured that he would retain his seat, he has now provided a different overview of his time at KTM.

“I’m disappointed – disappointed for everybody,” he said. “This is not what we wanted from all parties. As you said I came here with 25 podiums, been on the podium and fighting for the championship at Ducati last year (2022).

“This is not what I imagined or envisioned. Even at the beginning of this season I worked my hardest so far in the off-season and I didn’t get the results I wanted.

“I tried to ride the bike from the first lap in Valencia (test) to the last lap (in the Barcelona final), but I tried my best. I’m proud of that fact, and that’s all.”

Miller finished the 2024 season in 14th place in the riders’ standings, while KTM stablemates Binder and pedro acosta Ranked fifth and sixth respectively.

He scored 87 points, achieving a best result of fifth place on two occasions, which is less than the 163 points achieved in 2023, when KTM was in a relatively stronger position than the dominant Ducati.

Asked to mention some races where he felt competitive on the RC16, he said: “I think last year in Valencia – it was a good feeling to lead the last race and fight for the podium; Sprint podium at Sachsenring; Podium and sprint podium in Jerez.

“But obviously this year with the new tires we are struggling to adapt. Obviously being on the same chassis as we were at Misano last year doesn’t help.

Miller believes his impressive performance from 15th to fifth at the Thai Grand Prix in October reflects his fighting spirit, insisting he never gave up in the face of adversity.

“Apparently the most valuable is the fifth place in Buriram. It’s good to be back fighting for the podium again,” he said.

“Okay, it was wet conditions, but we showed true patience and that describes the last two years. I never missed a moment. Even when I was falling in over my head every other weekend, I was still trying my best.

“At the end of the day, that’s what I’m here to do, to give my all whenever I come on the track. “I’m a racer and I want to be competitive, and unfortunately I haven’t lived up to my expectations, I haven’t lived up to my expectations the last few years, so I’m disappointed with that.”

Following the news of his departure from KTM, there came a time when Miller admitted that his chances of remaining on the MotoGP grid in 2025 were slim to none.

However, he was eventually able to secure a factory contract with him to race for Yamaha’s new satellite team Pramac the following year.

The Australian previously spent three seasons with Pramac from 2018-20 when it was part of Ducati’s satellite structure.
