Michelin gives the reason why it has left Motogp


Michelin has explained that it is ready to leave the Motogp Championship as Dorna wanted to be the same supplier for all her series with which the French marks disagreed.

Pirelli Thursday was declared as the next tire manufacturer of Motogp 2027 to 2031. The Italian brand already provides tires to the Moto2 and Moto3, while it will also take Michelin in Mutoe.

Michelin will therefore be out of the Motogp when its current contract will end, despite starting work on new compounds for the new technological era since 2027, which will include the 850cc engine formula.

Michelin’s two-wheel competition manager Piero Taramaso said, “We had been discussing renewal with Dorna for several months, then he decided a supplier for all world championship categories-so Motogp, Moto2, Moto3, Moto3, but also also like Roukies Cups and Talter Cups Categories, “

“For strategic reasons, he decided that a supplier was better than two, and we were not interested in doing other categories outside Motogp and Motoe.”

Taramaso reported that Michelin was eager to expand its participation in Motogp as the company could not collect similar technical data through any other series.

“Ever since we entered Moto, we have managed to integrate more than 50% of the durable material in tires. For us, therefore, they were perfectly in line with the strategy of the Michelin Group. ,

Taramaso also said that the supply of tires in so many championships would be harmful to rubber quality simultaneously.

He said, “There was no meaning for us to rest, and that’s why we did not want to continue.”

“In addition, focusing just two championships meant that we could provide a better service to drivers and teams.

“If, instead, you spread your resources, you risk service and tire quality. This is also a reason why we decided to leave. ,

Pireli currently has another deal to supply the World Superbike Championship by the end of 2026, as well as its major partnership with Formula 1, which is scheduled to run as soon as possible by 2027.
