As exciting is to see how electric technology re -defines automotive transportation, it is exciting to see how it changes that we already have. In the aftermarket, EV-Parivarted restomods are quick to become a big business. But the manufacturers have great potential in electrifying the heritage badge by basically combining the old design with direct, new technology.
The point is the case 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ techniqueEV is known as gelondugen (which is German for all-Terran vehicle), or as a g-wagon. Starting from $ 162,650, G580 is perfect for its original design formula, but uses EV technology to do its off-road skills and overall appeal as a daily luxury SUV.
If it was not to swap your spare tire carrier for a small storage box, including a charging cable, you may have trouble separating G580 from its gas-operated G550 and AMG G 63 siblings. Stay relaxed, things are quite different. Instead of the internal combustion engine power and drivetrain, each wheel has its own permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor and two-speed transmission, which purifies a combined output of 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet torque.
G580 is perfect for its original design formula.
Providing strength to these units is an 116 kwh battery pack, located in the middle of chassis and protected by a thick sheet of carbon mixed material. It is also waterproof, and enables G580 to roll through a depth of 33.5 inch water – about six 550 and 63. Onboard charging has been rated at 9.6 kW, and DC fast charging tops are 200 kW, allowing it to charge from 10 to 80 percent for 32 minutes.
The range has been rated at a distance of 238 miles, which may seem less, but it makes sense to play very heavy, tall, and very un -ro-aerodynamic shape. I saw 200 miles in mixed driving which was mostly on highways.
Do people either forget or simply do not know that Zee-Wagon has always been capable of off-road to be quite capable. The new G580 does not wander from this formula, but it goes a step ahead by combining its EV powertrain with a traditional off-road chassis design. The result is a harmonious mixture of old and new technology.
Adaptive dumpers and traditional coil springs sit on a certain ride and are tied to its body-on-frame chassis through a double-west setup, which is a solid rear axle front in front. It allows 9.8 inch ground clearance, plus 32-degree approach, 30.7-degree departure, and 20.3-degree breakover angles.
My tested California was the Rohar Flats of-Higway Vehicle Area. I initially had some reservation about Falken Summer Street Tires, but they quickly got away: it was impressive how it took it to a good kind of ascending and descending, and at some menting angles. A major advantage of EV Paurtrain is that traction control is extremely accurate due to low components working to maximize the grip. Mighty Ji barely slipped to this part of the country fine and rough gravel, small and large rocks and a tire of Terra Fira in every other form.
G-wagon has always been very competently capable of off-road.
I put a low range of it, which synthesize a traditional low gear set by enabling gear deficiency on each motor for more immediate torque, but I do not think it was necessary. A special scar regularly picked up to 44 degrees, up and down, but Boxy Benz simply did not care. Then, when I tried to maximize the rear axle articulation on some complex, romantic features on a special downhill section, I was left with a boring scene of all the tires touching the ground in confident confidence, in the service of the eye -catching photography.
Finally, I had to try one of the most complicated party tricks of G580: Zee Turn. It is a setting that allows it to spin it in place of 180 degrees, and it is entertaining as the back of the wheel as it is to see. There is a matter of use, such as when you have to change the direction and there is no place for multipoint turn – however, the normal area around it should be completely flat. This is definitely narrow in its application, but who cares? It is fun as hell.
Once I returned to the confirmed civilization, G-Vagan received his more general identity with great overall visibility as a comfortable Mandarais SUV. Despite tying the scale at 6,746 pounds, it is bougies in a straight line and will reach 60 mph within five seconds. Such a joy day in a narrow, stilted package may seem dangerous at the first time, but it actually performs solid athleticism on twist roads.
I never wanted to reduce EV fast
As long as a person is not eager for his look or negative meanings, the badge does not often bear, there is not much to dislike 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580. It is a large-scale fun off-road, comfortable around the city, rapid in blisters, and a commanding scene of the road that makes it a luxurious in-town runout. Its limit is not the largest, but I would not say that this is a major issue, either, until someone was prepared in a dedicated overlanding rig.
Despite its steep price, Mercedes has come up with something special in G580.
