meta ceo Mark Zuckerberg Rival technology giant criticized Apple to weak innovation efforts and “random rules” in a lengthy podcast interview on Friday.
“On the one hand, (the iPhone) has been great, because now almost everyone in the world has a phone, and it enables quite amazing things,” Zuckerberg said in an episode. “The Joe Rogan Experience.” “But on the other hand… they’ve used that platform to make a lot of rules that I think seem arbitrary and (to me) feel like they haven’t really invented anything great in a while It’s like Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, and now they’re sitting on it 20 years later.”
Zuckerberg said he thought iPhone sales struggled Because consumers are taking longer to upgrade their phones the new models are not major improvements over previous versions.
“So how are they making more money as a company? Well, they do it by basically squeezing people, and, as you’re saying, this 30% tax on developers gives you more peripherals and such. Inspired to buy things that plug it in,” Zuckerberg said. “You know, they make things like the Air Pods, which are fantastic, but they’ve completely disrupted the ability for anyone else to make something that can connect to the iPhone in the same way.”
According to Zuckerberg, Apple defends itself from opposition from other companies by saying that it does not want to violate consumers’ privacy and security. But he said the problem would be solved if Apple fixes its protocols, such as creating better security and using encryption.
Zuckerberg said, “It’s insecure because you didn’t build any security into it. And then now you’re using it to explain why only your product can connect in an easy way.”
Zuckerberg said Meta’s profits would double if Apple stopped enforcing its “random rules”.

“I think Vision Pro is one of the bigger changes in doing a new thing that they’ve tried in a while,” Zuckerberg said. “And I don’t want to give them too much time on this, because we do a lot of things where the first version isn’t that good, and you want to evaluate the third version of it. But I mean, V1, it’s definitely Didn’t make it out of the park.”
He said, “I heard it’s really good for watching movies.”
Apple did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
