Despite Rashford previously insisting that his optimal position was on the left, he flourished in a more central role against the Greek outfit.
After the match, Rashford confessed: “This could be my best performance with Barça. I am ready to give my best to the team,” he told UEFA.
“I like to play on the wing, but I don’t care about that. I intend to help and try my best.”
The comments come after Barcelona manager Hansi Flick backed Rashford to thrive in the central position.
“Marcus can be a number 9 or a number 11. When we think about him, we value the fact that he can play more than one position,” he told TNT Sport.
“He has given us a lot of positive things and, of course, he can play as a center forward.”
An injury to Ferran Torres resulted in Rashford being deployed centrally against Olympiacos.
However, Torres’ return to fitness means he could be transferred back for the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid. Barcelona are set to face their arch-rivals at the Bernabeu this Sunday, a match that Rashford is eagerly anticipating.
“The Clasico is a great game and that’s why I’ve been here for so many games,” he said. I’m looking forward to it, I hope we win.”
Since his transfer from United, where he was not involved in pre-season preparations, Rashford has scored five goals and provided six assists in 12 matches for Barcelona. He will be hoping to increase those figures against Real Madrid this weekend.
