Noah-Lynn van Leeuwen is just hours away from achieving a new feat at the World Darts Championship.
She will today become the first transgender player to grace the sport’s most prestigious tournament.
The 28-year-old, who transitioned into 2021, will face Kevin Doates for a place in the second round.
Speaking before the match, Van Leeuwen made it clear that she wanted to take her skills center stage.
“It would be a huge accomplishment for me and people like me, but I guess I just want to be Noah.” He said,
“I just want to play darts and not always talk about the fact that I’m transgender too. I’m a darts player and I’m very good at it.
“But I think it’s a big deal and I’m also the first Dutch woman to play on the Alexandra Palace stage.”
