Rehabilitation made by Valencia-based Homu Architectos stems from a practice in architectural honor, where the original materiality and essence of the building is carefully preserved.
With a surface area of 243 sqm, this terraced property maintained specific elements of Labinil’s urban fabric. The intervention removed the spectacular details to reorganize the space and be suited to the new needs without losing its essence. The original front has been restored, as well as its independent access, specific of the architectural imprint of the neighborhood. Similarly, stones and brick walls along the original wooden carpentry and doors have been recovered.
At the core of the design, Homu Architectos advocated to highlight the existing structure and materials. The exposed brick, stone and wood emerge in their net state, establishing a dialogue with new intervention. The complementary metal structure is integrated with subtlety, providing a contemporary character without reducing the prominence of historical physicality. Additionally, indirect light takes advantage of the position of these elements to increase the heat of the space. Regarding the layout, the project clearly distinguishes two houses.
The ground floor program has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a Mediterranean courtyard and a private swimming pool. On the upper floor, another apartment with an independent access house has two roofs and a liberal attic place with the roof of about seven meters high, where natural light and ventilation play an important role. The original structural elements, such as wooden beams, co -existence with the internal proposal of the Mediterranean air and a warm, welcome environment a warm, a warm, reception.
Bathrooms become the backbone of space, which act as a hinge between the areas of the day and the bedroom. Despite their structural magnitude, they are designed to integrate subtlety, without breaking the apartment’s liquidity and visual language.
Thus, it shows the Homu Architectose project that it is possible to interfere with historical architecture, without snatching its identity. Recovery of original elements, combined with contemporary solutions, results in a harmonious offer where the past and current co -existence are correct harmony.
