Williams James Walls, Principal of Formula 1 team, has released a statement after both Alex albon And Carlos Sainz Singapore Grand Prix was disqualified from the qualifying session. Britain confirmed that the grove outfit started an immediate investigation of how it happened.
After Albon and Sainz initially qualified in 12th and 13th on the grid at Marina Bay Street Circuit, the FIA found its cars in violation of technical rules about DRS.
The FIA said, “During post-Ququali scrutinizing, the car’s rear wing was found non-essential with technical rules.”
“The upper rear wing element adjustable posts were checked. In case of deployment, the DRS rear wing exceeded the maximum limit of 85 mm on both sides of the exterior area.”
Walls has since released the following statements: “During the FIA investigation after qualifying, the rear wings on both our cars thwarted the DRS slot gap check.
“As a result, Alex and Carlos have been disqualified from qualifying for yesterday’s Singapore Grand Prix. It is very disappointing for the team and we are investigating immediately how it happened.
“At any point we were not demanding a performance benefit and the rear wings had passed their checks first during the day, but the only measurement that matters and we fully accept the FIA ruling.
“We have a car able to scoring here later this week and we will do everything to fight from behind the back of the grid tomorrow, and will immediately review our processes to ensure that it does not happen again.”
As a result, the Singapore Grand Prix will start from the back of the Albon and Sainz grid.
