I want YouTube algorithm to stop this one annoying thing

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority

For years, YouTube The suggestion algorithm has become very complicated. I have seen that it can extract my taste very well depending on the history of my watch, constantly attracts me to consume more videos. For example, I recently saw a live clip of Kautuk in Kachela. My home screen feed then not only filled the concert clip by the other show by the Pradigi, but also other artists that I like, such as nine inch nails, St. Vincent, Air, and more. In particular, these artists do nothing like Kautuk, but the algorithm is smart enough to believe that my taste will be align with them based on my watch history. I am not going to lie: I had to stop myself from watching a live concert clip throughout the day.

It is impressive and some Google probably spend millions of dollars in refining, as it keeps people sticking to YouTube and fuel the money-drop machine that has become it. Eagerly, while the algorithm is intelligent enough to do so, it is still completely unqualified on something else: when I search for a video it makes sense because I am not deeply interested in the subject, but because I need help in doing a specific task. Even now, in 2025, it still seems to throw algorithm for a loop.

YouTube algorithm and one time function

Leather boot repair (1 of 1)

I give you an example of a real world of algorithm deficiency. I have expensive German leather shoes that I wear almost every day and love my heart. Since I wear them a lot, they go through a lot of wear and tears. In the past, I have taken them into a cobbler to refresh them every few years, but here in California, it is expensive – and no cheap. I felt that it could not be difficult to maintain annual maintenance on my shoes, and would definitely save me money by doing so.

I went directly to YouTube with this idea. I discovered the “leather boot refresh” and found dozens of high quality videos going on the equipment, polish, conditioner, and other materials required for this task. I saw a video – just one! – And knew that I could do this myself. I bought the products that were suggested, and when they all came, I watched the same video many times again, because I followed its instructions. My shoes look great now – they are like new!

Watching a ‘video’ video about a particular theme should not be enough to flood your feed on that subject for the algorithm.

Someone thinks that YouTube algorithm will understand that I passed through this process, not to see a live concert clip. I am not interested in buying leather shoes. I am not looking for other tips to fix my shoes. I am not going to open a cobbler shop. I had a one-time problem-refreshing my shoes-and used One YouTube video to solve that problem. If I need help again, I will find it (or just watch the same video once once).

How clear it would seem, it did not stop the algorithm from filling my home page with other videos about refreshing leather shoes. Seriously, after a few days I refreshed, about half of my home page was a video related to leather, shoes or cobblers. Shouldn’t we be beyond this yet? Should the algorithm not be able to see the difference between the video hours that I enjoy seeing the goods and the hours spent using YouTube as a tool?

It wants me to use YouTube less, not more

Remember how I had to hold myself back from the entire concert after watching a Cachella clip? This is why you have made YouTube so successful. Unfortunately, this problem-inability to stop itself from suggesting irrelevant materials based on the needs of a bar-makes the home page worse, working against its success. In other words, my feed boot is being covered with video. I want to navigate me away From YouTube. This is the exact opposite of Google’s intentions!

Has the YouTube algorithm first filled your feed with ‘how’ content ‘?

Based on this, someone thinks that Google will give priority to prevent this issue. However, given that YouTube is about 20 years old (man, I am old) and this problem still exists, it is clearly not as much as a priority for Google as I think.

You think Google would like to fix it, given that it makes my home feed less accustomed.

For Google’s credit, after a week of this, my feed approved all references of boot and leather. It seems that the algorithm is no longer smart to understand that I have not clicked any suggestion, so I am not really interested in more boot videos. But what if this boot was nothing related to repair, and instead something more sensitive? What if I went to YouTube to resolve health issues, and suddenly my feed was a beacon for someone who wants to know about my medical condition? What if I saw a video how to solve a matrimonial problem, and my feed was filled with other videos about marital problems that I am not? YouTube should work for us, not against us.

Have you faced a similar problem? What did you discover that the algorithm pummel you with other related videos? Tell me in the comments, and be sure to choose something in the survey above!
