I never click on my Android phone without using this app first

Andy Walker / Android Authority

I am always in two minds about tapping a link on myself Android phoneThis can lead me to a spontaneous duck meme that makes my day. Alternatively, it can find me somewhere that I do not want to go enough. This is less likely on the platform where I can fully preview the link, but for many other apps, no one is telling where the blue hyperlink text will take you.

I use open source Urlcheckone of my Favorite Android AppsTo address this possible security lapse. After searching for it several months ago, it quickly became one of the first and most important apps installed on new and old Android devices.

Do you think the link handling on Android is safe enough?

What is urlcheck, and why do I use it?

URLCHACK Android App Feature 1

Andy Walker / Android Authority

URLcheck is a small Android app that gives me more control over the link than Android. On the surface, it is a middleman that intercepts the link and allows me to see them completely, but if you dig a bit deep, Virustotal api key (You have to sign up to provide your own). Android basically provides none of these features, so urlcheck is a significant safety excess for any smartphone.

The urlcheck intercepts the link before they chase, allowing me to look, modify them, or completely disregard them.

It also has other utility. Set it as your default web browser, and URLCHECK lets you choose a browser or app to open the link. For example, if I open a link to Gmail, the URLCHECK will intercepted it and allow me to open it in Chrome, Firefox, my local shopping app, or any other related app. Without urlcheck, the link will open in the default browser set by me. As I use many browsers on my phone, including chrome for individual Google related data and Firefox for day-to-day browsingI appreciate getting the option to choose immensely.

URLcheck also provides its powers when sharing the link. I find it fantastic to remove tracking tags and unnecessary redirects before passing friends and family. There is nothing worse than receiving a random link by layers of the redirect.

How to set urlcheck on Android

The urlcheck can be slightly heavy to set, but its adaptation capacity makes it condemnable. The app offers a straight tutorial that moves you through the main stages to increase your experience. This is silly, but I suggest that you follow the quick randon below.

  1. Install urlcheck from play store Or Github,
  2. Open the app. You will be congratulated before the five tutorial screen. You can leave the first two screens by tapping next – These only tell how the app works.
  3. On screen three, you will be asked to select URLcheck as your default browser. Tap set as Default browser, Default web browserOr Android app settings To accomplish this step.
  4. Next, select your module by tapping ModuleI run the following: Input text, status code, UNshortener, URL cleaner, host labler, and open and share. Be sure to tap each, read their details, and choose if you will need it.
  5. Finally, proceed to the final screen and tap once again to eliminate the tutorial.

Now, whenever you choose an URL in an Android app, the URLCHECK shows you where it indicates. You can then follow that link, modify it, or choose a completely second route.

No device can make the web completely safe

Do not misunderstand me. URLcheck is powerful, but it will not granny you around the web. The app does not act as an alarm. It will not warn you until you use its URL scanner module. Active without this module, you have to use some of your natural smart to determine whether the destination you want to go somewhere.

Unless you use its URL scanner module, the URLCHECK will not warn you.

Additionally, to check an URL within your browser, you have to use the share menu to share the link of URLCHECK. During a regular operation, the app only intercepts the link from apps that will direct your browser.

In particular, if you find that the URLcheck does not open the link and instead that the link opens directly in another app, you have to change the method that the special app handles the web link. For example, my shopping app shakes these links on my pixel. To fix it, I navigated Settings> App> See all apps> Search and tap on aggressive app > Open by default> check In your browserNow, as a default browser, URLcheck prevents these links.
