“This allows us to produce an upper content in a completely automated manner,” Mark Maurr said, the former co-CEO of On-CEOs who recently left the company. “A traditional product is touched by about 200 hands, which is very different here.”
The upper part of the shoe is formed as a robot, spraying a synthetic material that is called polymer on a rotating foot -shaped mold. This process takes about three minutes per shoe. The final product does not have seam or laces and fits like a sock.
Maurr said, “What we want to be able to do is to bring it to millions of couples from a thousand couples.”
The company announced this month that it is opening its first LightSpre factory in Zurich, which has four robots.
